But not just any mac and cheese—this one’s got a rich, creamy cheese sauce that’ll have you second-guessing every other mac and cheese recipe you’ve ever tried. We’re talking about a cheesy, gooey masterpiece with the perfect golden-brown, crispy top.

Add a touch of mustard.
Grate the cheese yourself for a creamier, smoother sauce.
Pasta water contains starch and helps bind the sauce perfectly. Add it little by little and continue stirring until the sauce is smooth.
Mix the grated cheese with breadcrumbs or panko for a deliciously crispy crust.
You can also melt a small knob of butter and sprinkle it over the top for extra crunch.
Once out of the oven, let it sit for 5 minutes before serving. This allows the sauce to set a little and keeps the dish creamy.
Add caramelized onions, fried onions, or jalapeños.
Stappenplan
Bring a pot of water to a boil and add the macaroni. Stir after a few minutes and cook for 10-12 minutes. Scoop 75 ml of pasta water from the pot and set aside. Drain the macaroni and let it drain well.
Heat the butter in a frying pan over low heat. Add the flour and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute with a whisk.
Pour in the milk and stir until smooth. Add the black pepper, cayenne power, chicken stock cube, heavy cream and pasta water. Mix well and simmer until the sauce thickens slightly. Add the grated cheese, and cheddar cheese. Stir well with a whisk until smooth.
Mix the macaroni into the cheese sauce and stir well.
Transfer the macaroni mixture into a baking dish and sprinkle the grated cheese on top.
Place the mac and cheese in a preheated oven at 220 ℃. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
